Bedna X-ray diffraction experiments indicate that cryomilling of an amorphous CoFeZrB alloy significantly retards mechanically-induced crystallization. After 12 h of milling, the samples consist mostly of an amorphous component and tiny fraction of bcc-Fe. Significant changes are observed on the radial distribution function, suggesting the reordering of atoms within the amorphous phase. Investigation of thermal stability and magnetic properties also indicate that the observed changes upon cryomilling are related to changes in the amorphous phase. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Cryomilling of Aluminum-based and Magnesium-based Metal Powders

Ball milling has been shown to produce nanostructures in metal powders through severe repetitive deformation. Ball milling at cryogenic temperatures (cryomilling) is more effective in this capacity due to the low temperature by slowing recovery and minimizing diffusion distances between different components. Nanostructured metals are of interest because of their unique physical and mechanical p...

Shape Memory Properties in Cu-Zn-Al Alloy

In this research a Cu-Zn-Al alloy is produced by melting the raw materials in an electric resistance furnace and then pouring it into a steel mould. The optimum way to achieve the final analysis in the hypo-eutectoid range is determined and the influence of the alloying element, Ti on the grain size and the shape memory properties of the samples are investigated. Solution treatment (done at 850...

Influence of Cu and Ni on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of an HSLA Steel

In this research the role of alloying elements on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an as cast and hot rolled high strength low alloy (HSLA) steel was studied. Different compositions with different amount of copper in the presence of nickel, hot rolled and quenched in oil. Tensile test, hardness test, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope (OM) were used to eval...

Influence of Notch Depth-to-Width Ratios on J-Integral and Critical Failure Load of Single-Edge Notched Tensile Aluminium 8011 Alloy Specimens

In this paper, the influence of notch depth-to-width ratios on J-integral and critical load of Aluminium 8011 alloy specimens with U-notch under Mode I loading are studied. Using experiments, for a set of specimens having different notch depth–to–width ratios, J-integral was found and the same was verified using analytical methods. Further, using the results obtained from the experiments, failu...
